Subaru Factory WINDOW TINT

Factory Window Tint Percentage Subaru. I would like to share what I found out over the past few days about the Factory window tint and UVA/UVB blocking. (I am not sure what the "read door partition glass" refers to however on the 2017.) According to Subaru Of America, 2017 Forester Premium Windows: Listed below are the Visible Ray Light Transmittance Values: Front windshield - 80%, Front partition window - 75%, Front door glass - 75%, Moonroof - 80%, Rear door glass with dark tint - 20%, Rear door partition glass with dark tint - 25%, Rear quarter glass with dark tint - 25%, Rear glass with dark tint - 30%.

I just had my 13 model's front windows matched up at 20% tint to match the rears. Big improvement over the goofy mismatch from the factory. It may be goofy but the factory window tint complies with state laws. When you darken your forward windows you reduce your outward visibility, especially at night, and may be in violation of the law in your state.

Can any experienced window tint installers tell me the best BRAND that matches the 2020 Subaru Outback tint color when looking from inside/out of the vehicle? I believe the 2019 generation also has the same tint. I'm looking for the best quality tint and the closest factory match percentage and hue/color so I can get the fronts tinted to match the other windows.

Does the window come with any type of tint from the factory? My 11 Outback Limited came with what seems to be lighter tinting on the front and sides, and dark tint on the rear and hatch. If you want a real tint that will reduce heat and UV you MUST have a professional tinter put a good quality film on your glass. I went with 35% here in FL which is legal. In VA I had to use 50% which was legal in that state. I suggest a ceramic tint as they are the best for both heat and UV rejection.

Yeah factory says tint on rear sides 20% but like person above, my tint guy metered them at 25% on my 2021 Subaru Outback Touring. I got 35% ceramic tint on my front windows to stay legal-ish or at least not give the police a reason to pull me over. Even though it doesn’t match the rear, it‘s not quite such a jarring contrast among the windows and the increased UV protection should help preserve the Napa leather interior.

The rear windows on my Forester 2.5i premium were at 28% factory, and the front windows were near clear, as was the sunroof (the tint guy measured them with a meter). I tinted the fronts to match the back, which meant I used 30%, which was legal with the fudge factor (see below). I put 15% on the sunroof, which has no legal limitations, and that area of the roof went from hot as heck to barely warm in bright 95 degree sun. I could have put a strip on the upper windshield but have not.

If your wanting the closest shade to match the rear doors, a 25-30% will give you the best match. As for the color, does your stock glass have any blue or green hue to them? This will help narrow down a film since they all have their own look. However, there is nothing you can do to make it match from the inside looking outward. It is two different technologies, so it will always be noticeably different. The best you can hope for is matching as close as possible from the outside looking inward. Since Outbacks are not an everyday vehicle we do, I can't remember how the stock glass looks and the video doesn't really help much besides showing the stock VLT/shade.

DemonWRX said: Yeah, technically, the law states all after market tint is illegal, but you can aftermarket tint up to 70% on your vehicle. However, if you drive say a F150 or explorer with 4x4 ability, for example, and blind all other drivers with your headlights, you are allowed to use 5% tint on the rear windows.
